History
- The Tonkinese blends the best features of its ancestors into one
beautiful, medium-sized cat that is remarkably dense and muscular. Whether
appearing in the coat pattern of its Burmese predecessor, with sparkling
gold-green eyes; the pointed pattern of its Siamese ancestor, with
glittering blue eyes; or the “mink” coat pattern with its unique aqua eyes,
whatever coat pattern or color, they are a unique breed blending the best of
the Burmese and Siamese into one beautiful & loving cat with moderate head
type. Their name is derived from the Gulf of Tonkin in Asia next to Burma
and Siam.
Colors and Coats Types Available - Platinum, Blue, Natural, Champagne
in Point, Mink & Solid coat patterns with blue to green eyes.
Grooming and Care - Easy care short hair. Combing
regularly will minimize shedding
Best
Suitable Environment - Indoor family environment. They are happy with
one person or several in the family. Most prefer another cat to run and play
with. Two Tonks are happier than one. They have plenty of love for each
other as well as their humans.
Personality Traits - The colorful personality of the
Tonkinese make them ideal companions. They will take possession of your lap
and shoulder, and they will supervise your activities. They are warm and
loving, and highly intelligent. They are strong willed, and their humans are
wise to use persistent persuasion in training them.
Much has been written about how friendly and outgoing Tonks
are, however they are still CATS, and are not bomb proof. They love
children, but will duck for cover when they become TOO rowdy or loud.
