Meet Shramp
When Shramp was first discovered in Texas, she had been sadly abandoned by her mother and desperately needed assistance. Upon closer inspection, her rescuer noticed an issue with her eye, which appeared to be an ulcer.
Shramp was severely underfed, making it challenging to determine her exact age, though she was estimated to be around two weeks old. Adding to the heartache, she had several injuries and wounds that required immediate attention.
The rescuer’s primary task was to nourish Shramp, giving her a chance to survive. With someone now looking after her, it meant that her chances of recovery were significantly higher.
Her rescuer stayed by her side around the clock, recognizing that Shramp was too fragile and needed constant care.
A Lucky Break
Every day, Shramp showed remarkable improvement. Her zest for life was evident in her joyful demeanor. Now on the mend, her caretaker decided to provide Shramp with her own cozy kennel for resting.
Shramp adored her new space, spending much of her time napping contentedly. After 11 days of care, it was time for a veterinary checkup in Texas.
The vet noted that the inflammation in Shramp’s eye had decreased, but she still required further care. They referred her to a veterinary ophthalmologist due to suspected anterior synechiae.
In addition to the eye issue, Shramp had a small hernia and potential hydrocephalus. Until her next appointment, she continued to recover at home, under the watchful eye of Theodore Charleston, her devoted dog nanny.
A Brand-New Chapter
Following her first vaccination, Shramp could finally interact with the other dogs in the household, who were captivated by her friendliness. She embraced her new family, and her personality began to shine.
During a subsequent vet visit, they prepared for difficult news: to help Shramp, her eye would need to be removed. Despite the daunting prospect, it was necessary for her full recovery.
The surgery was successful, and as anticipated, Shramp was on the path to recovery. The vets allowed her to return home the same day, advising her caretaker to monitor her closely.
Despite the tough surgery, Shramp quickly returned to her cheerful self, playing with her rescuer and the other dogs within days. Thanks to her resilience and the love of her rescuer, Shramp now enjoys a wonderful life with her new family.
