Chiquitita’s Struggle
If dogs could speak, they might describe happiness as having a loving family and a safe home. Sadly, many dogs don’t find this joy. Chiquitita, a 12-year-old senior pup, has been on a long journey to find her forever home.
After enduring over 650 days in shelters, Chiquitita’s dream of a family has remained unfulfilled. Her story began in heartbreak; she was used as a bait dog in a dog fighting ring. Rescued and brought to a shelter, she faced a tough road ahead.
Chiquitita battled fear and arthritis, and the shelter was running out of room. Her future seemed bleak as her name appeared on the euthanasia list. Fortunately, a former staff member intervened, reaching out to Watauga Humane Society for help.
Upon arrival at Watauga Humane Society, staff quickly realized that Chiquitita needed more love and care than the shelter could provide. The noise and environment terrified her, and she struggled to adjust. They knew she deserved a home, not just a shelter.
Life in a Foster Home
Hope arrived when a kind couple decided to foster Chiquitita. Showering her with love, they helped her overcome fears and grow into a happier pup. Snuggling and car rides became her favorite pastimes.
To boost her adoption chances, her fosters trained her to walk on a leash and introduced her to potential adopters. Despite her charm, Chiquitita remained without a permanent home. Her need to be the only pet made finding the right match difficult.
When her foster family had to move, Chiquitita transitioned to a new foster home. Her sweet nature won over her new caregivers, but she still waited for her forever family. The search continued for a home where she could be the star.
