Sheridan, a passionate animal lover, always makes room for animals in need, despite her already bustling household. When she learned about a dog requiring urgent help, she didn’t hesitate to open her heart and home.
Ava, a homeless dog, struggled to survive on the streets until a rescue group intervened, completely transforming her life. Medical exams revealed Ava had significant heart issues, prompting immediate surgery. Despite their best efforts, the prognosis was grim.
Determined to make Ava’s remaining time special, Sheridan welcomed her into her family. But something extraordinary happened—things took an unexpected turn.
According to Sheridan, “I had to think about that and the undertaking if I did want to keep her permanently but as soon as she came home I was like ‘I don’t think her medical status matters’.” Ava soon became a beloved member of the family, bringing joy and vitality to their lives.

Sheridan continued her mission of fostering pups, and Ava eagerly embraced every new arrival.
Ava’s enthusiastic greetings and nurturing nature helped new puppies feel at home. If a pup felt anxious, Ava would comfort and protect it, ensuring it felt safe.
“She is so welcoming and she just gives them time to get to know her. She is really good with boundaries and she is really good at reading other dogs. They always think she is like, mom,” Sheridan shared.
Despite Ava’s health condition, Sheridan was constantly reminded of her uncertain future. However, Ava’s resilience and spirit defied expectations.
A Miraculous Journey
As time passed, Sheridan witnessed a remarkable transformation in Ava. Months turned into years, and Ava continued to thrive.
“She is six and they didn’t expect her to make it anywhere near that. I hope that she can inspire people to realize that there are so many animals like her that were overlooked. They are all great dogs that just want loving homes,” Sheridan concluded.
Ava’s story is a testament to love and resilience. She enjoys her days running on the beach with her siblings and playing nanny to foster pups.
Ava’s journey reminds us that hope and compassion can overcome even the toughest challenges. As Sheridan says, better days are always on the horizon.
