A Young Boy’s Determination and Love for Animals
In the town of Warwick, Rhode Island, a six-year-old named Luca has taken an extraordinary step to support his passion for animals. Despite his young age, Luca’s dedication to animals has led him to start a unique business: picking up pet waste.
Luca and his mother have been fostering animals for years, offering them a caring environment until they find their forever homes. Luca shares, “I have a dog and a cat at home. I do a lot with them, like snuggling, petting, and spending time with them.”
Robyn, Luca’s mother, never anticipated fostering would become such a significant part of their lives. She admits, “It’s amazing how it grew into something we’re so passionate about.” Their home has become a sanctuary for almost 98 foster animals.
Besides helping at home, Luca often accompanies his mother to the local animal shelter where she works. His mother proudly says, “When I go to work, Luca’s the first one in the door.” He eagerly assists with chores around the shelter, showing his love for the animals.
The Birth of “Poopa Scoopa Luca”
Despite his contributions, Luca doesn’t earn money for his volunteer work. “Volunteering is a core value for us,” his mother emphasized. The family faced a tough time earlier in the year when they lost their beloved dog.
A few months ago, Luca developed a special connection with a cat at the shelter. When he asked to adopt the cat, Robyn had to explain the financial constraints involved. Undeterred, Luca asked, “What can I do to raise money? How can I make this happen?” He felt a deep need to bring the cat home.
After brainstorming, they realized Luca’s talent for cleaning could be the key. Thus, “Poopa Scoopa Luca” was born. Luca launched a small business offering to clean up pet waste from yards, making it both fun and fulfilling for him.
Luca enthusiastically shares, “It’s fun. I love cleaning, it’s one of my favorite things.” He knew many people disliked picking up dog poop, which presented an opportunity for his business to thrive.
Success and a New Furry Friend
For the past few weeks, Luca has been visiting homes around Warwick, carefully and hygienically picking up pet waste. He charges $15 for one dog and $20 for multiple dogs, depending on the job’s size.
His hard work has already attracted several customers. Luca proudly states, “I’ve had three or four customers so far.” His dedication paid off when he raised enough money to adopt the cat, whom he lovingly named Pebble.
The joy of bringing Pebble home was immense, but Luca’s journey doesn’t end there. He hopes to continue his business and raise more money to help other shelter animals.
Robyn is incredibly proud of her son, stating, “I honestly have the coolest kid in the world. For him to be so young and already so aware of the animal rescue crisis, both here in our state and across the country, is something truly special.”
An Ongoing Mission to Help Animals
Luca’s initiative has inspired many in his community. His mother shares, “We hope the business keeps growing.” Luca’s mission is to continue raising funds to save more animals in the future.
