Realizing the urgency, they immediately contacted Tullahoma Animal Shelter. Two dedicated rescuers, David Reed and Chris Cabral, rushed to the scene.

Arriving promptly, the rescuers peered into the dumpster. What they saw was heartbreaking: a pup trapped inside a tightly bound white trash bag, struggling to breathe. The sight was almost too much to bear.

Cheryl Rhoads, the animal control manager, later shared, “He was not moving, crying or barking. When he began to breathe, they immediately contacted one of our veterinarians for emergency care.”

The pup, named Oscar, was rushed to the vet where he received subcutaneous fluids, crucial medications, and a much-needed haircut. Initially weighing six pounds, his weight dropped to four and a half pounds after the severe mats were removed.

Being in a nurturing environment did wonders for Oscar. He began to feel and look better almost immediately. The love and care he received brought a new spark to his eyes.

Since Oscar is part of an active investigation to uncover what happened to him, he’s not available for adoption yet. However, he’s currently in foster care with a loving family, and he’s relishing every moment.

“Oscar has some sass to him. His favorite activity is to burrow up in blankets and sleep. He also likes to be held, but on his terms,” Rhoads mentioned. Despite not enjoying his medications, Oscar loves his cozy naps.
