Pamela endured eight years of isolation in a crumbling doghouse, but her life was on the verge of a dramatic change.

Pamela Is Left All Alone

In 2018, after being evicted, Pamela’s family made the unthinkable decision to leave her behind. When a local realtor realized this, he contacted Janine Guido, the founder of Speranza Animal Rescue in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.

Guido wasted no time and rushed to the house to save Pamela.

Upon arrival, Guido was heartbroken to see the old, decrepit doghouse that had been Pamela’s prison for eight long years. The poor dog was peeking out, too scared to come out.

Guido’s heart sank at the sight of Pamela’s sad eyes and fearful demeanor.

Helping Pamela Heal

As her former owner returned to collect his belongings, he didn’t even say goodbye to Pamela. He did, however, help Guido load Pamela into the car before disappearing without a second glance.

Arriving at the rescue, Pamela remained terrified and insecure, unsure of how to process the sudden changes in her life. Her tail was tucked, and she cowered in her crate.

It was clear to Guido that Pamela needed an abundance of love and patience to heal.

“While she doesn’t have physical wounds, hers are emotional. And those are the hardest ones to heal,” Guido shared on the rescue’s Facebook page.

With her experience in rehabilitating traumatized dogs, Guido was determined to help Pamela overcome her past. She spent countless hours with her, offering reassurance and affection.

Guido’s heart broke every time she saw the fear in Pamela’s eyes.

“When I talk to her she just shakes in fear. Her whole body just trembles … Just the look in her eye is breaking my heart,” Guido wrote.

The Pup Discovers Love

Over time, Guido’s unwavering care began to have an effect. Pamela started to trust her rescuer, eventually giving Guido little kisses. The bond between them grew stronger each day.

Pamela’s confidence blossomed as she began to enjoy walks and the newfound freedom in her life. She felt loved and cared for like never before.

As weeks turned into months, Pamela’s emotional scars healed. She transformed into a joyful dog, showering her caregivers with kisses and hugs.

On June 23, 2018, Speranza Animal Rescue joyfully announced that Pamela had moved to a foster home. Her foster mom, Caroline, showered her with love and attention.
