Quickly, he took a photograph and shared it on Facebook, hoping someone might recognize the lost pup. He also reached out to Lost Dogs of Fort Wayne (LDFW), a local platform for lost and found pets.
Andrew’s hope was that the dog’s owner would see the post and come forward. He didn’t want the little dog to remain in the woods, scared and hungry. The image of the frightened dog tugged at the hearts of many who saw it online.
As the post gained attention, the community started to rally together. People were eager to help the small dog find its way back home. Andrew’s quick thinking had set in motion a series of events that would change the dog’s life forever.
The Rescue Effort
Upon seeing the dog’s picture, the LDFW owner, along with another animal enthusiast, decided to search for the dog. They were soon joined by four more compassionate individuals who couldn’t bear to leave the dog in the woods. Their mission was clear: rescue the little dog from the wilderness.
The search party’s determination paid off when they spotted the dog across a creek. They carefully approached and captured the frightened creature, ensuring he was safe and sound. The team then brought the dog to Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control (FWACC) for further care.
The rescue was a community effort, showcasing the power of collective compassion. The little dog was finally out of harm’s way, ready to start a new chapter in life. It was a moment of relief for everyone involved.
Once at FWACC, the dog received the medical attention he needed. The shelter staff were ready to give him a fresh start, away from the perils of the forest. The little dog’s journey of healing had just begun.
New Beginnings at the Shelter
The shelter staff decided to name the dog Joey. Joey initially appeared lethargic upon arrival, but he soon showed a playful side when offered toys. His energy and zest for life were infectious, bringing joy to everyone at the shelter.

Now, Joey is part of a happy family that includes another dog and two cats. His life is filled with love, play, and companionship. Joey’s dream of a loving home had finally come true.
