Meet Nubby
When Lou got a call about a newborn Boxer missing his front legs, she didn’t hesitate. She dropped everything and went to fetch the sweet pup. Her husband, Mark, was initially unaware of her mission, but once he held the puppy, he knew they had to help him thrive.
Their first night with Nubby was far from easy. They barely slept, taking turns to care for him. Mark later shared, “Our first night with Nubby was horrible. We got up every hour. You know, we took turns. I had twins, I’m used to taking one shift.”
Despite a rough start, which included an ICU visit, Nubby’s fighting spirit shone through. His sheer determination to live and play inspired Lou and Mark to make his life as joyful as possible.
They built him a LEGO wheelchair, and he scooted around with zest. Nubby’s disability never held him back; he was an active puppy who loved to jump and crawl, showing everyone he could have just as much fun as any other dog.
Resilience and Joy
Inspired by Nubby’s strength, Lou and Mark focused on exercises to strengthen his legs, turning workouts into playful activities. Over time, Nubby learned to stand on his back legs and eventually mastered jumping! His perseverance was nothing short of inspiring.
“Nubby figured out that he could launch himself and jump. It’s as if he is not missing anything. He’s just like ‘This is how I do it. This is how I roll’,” the couple shared. His spirit was undeterred, and his zest for life contagious.
Eventually, Nubby was given a proper wheelchair, which he initially disliked. They tried a different one, but he still wasn’t a fan. However, through positive reinforcement and fun activities, Nubby began to tolerate it for short strolls.
His parents’ unwavering support and innovative solutions helped Nubby navigate his world. His story is a testament to the power of love and resilience, proving that with the right support, any challenge can be overcome.
Here Comes The Litter
As time went on, Nubby matured into a sweet and playful dog, surrounded by a loving family and doggie siblings. One of his new companions was a pregnant dog Lou and Mark had rescued. When she gave birth to six puppies, Nubby was overjoyed!
Nubby adored spending time with the new litter, proving to be the best older sibling they could have. He brought endless fun to the babies and was incredibly caring, ensuring their safety and well-being.
“It doesn’t matter how many legs he has, where he is at, he is just happy. Just because you have a limb difference, or just because you are different, period, doesn’t mean that you don’t have a quality of life, and he teaches that every single day,” said the couple. Nubby’s daily joy and perseverance offer hope and inspiration to many.
With such an excellent role model, the new puppies are sure to grow into strong and happy dogs, ready to find their own loving families. Nubby’s story beautifully highlights how love and determination can transform lives.
Good Luck, Little Ones
As Nubby continues to thrive, the new puppies are also growing up in a nurturing environment. Lou and Mark’s home is filled with love, ensuring that all their dogs, regardless of their differences, lead fulfilling lives.
Nubby’s journey from a fragile puppy to a joyful, active dog is a testament to his incredible spirit and the unwavering support of his family. His story is a beacon of hope for anyone facing challenges.
“He doesn’t give up… He gives hope to a lot of people,” the couple concluded. Nubby’s resilience and joy are a daily reminder that obstacles can be overcome with love and perseverance.
We’re confident that these adorable puppies, with Nubby as their guide, will grow into strong, happy dogs, ready to embark on their own journeys. Good luck to all of them!
