S’mores, a stray dog, found his way to the Stanislaus Animal Services Agency (SASA) in Modesto, California. Right from the start, he showed nothing but love and gratitude. According to volunteer Nadia Borisova, his finder described him as a “very loving and good dog,” and S’mores lived up to that description every day.

The day finally arrived when a family chose to adopt this one-year-old Anatolian Shepherd. S’mores couldn’t contain his excitement as he realized he was going to his forever home. With a beaming smile, he instantly bonded with his new family, acting as if he had known them forever.

But then, heartbreak struck. Within just an hour, S’mores was returned to the shelter. The reason? The family said he was simply too big. The shelter staff were shocked and saddened to see this sweet dog’s dream shattered.

Heather Gee, another volunteer, shared a heartbreaking video on TikTok of S’mores’ short-lived adoption day. “S’mores got adopted today, BUT…was returned after about 1 hour due to ‘being too big’,” Heather wrote in a Facebook post. The video showed the stark contrast between S’mores’ initial joy and his return to the shelter.

A New Chance

Despite the setback, S’mores didn’t have to wait long for the next chapter in his journey. Only a few days after his return to the kennel, he received some incredible news! S’mores was transferred to a non-profit rescue, known as @notyouraveragerescueinc on Instagram.

“S’mores will be going to his foster where he can decompress, get some training, and most importantly, receive the TLC he deserves,” wrote Advocate Paws, an organization dedicated to helping shelter animals find forever homes. This announcement brought a new wave of hope for S’mores.

Thanks to his dedicated rescuers, S’mores will finally experience what it’s like to be in a loving home. His new foster family will provide the space and care he needs to thrive. It’s a new beginning for this lovable dog, and everyone is rooting for him.
