A One-of-a-Kind Canine
Loren, like many proud dog parents, stumbled upon her perfect furry companion. Many believe their pets are extraordinary, but for Loren, her pup, Falkor, is truly exceptional. Standing at just three-and-a-half pounds, this little Chimix often leaves onlookers puzzled about her true nature.
Loren shares, “People think she’s a ghost or a pig. I sometimes wonder, ‘What are you? Where did you come from?’” When she first met Falkor, Loren was unsure if she was looking at a puppy or an old dog. Her unique appearance made her age difficult to guess.
Regardless of her age, Loren knew Falkor needed help. She found her in a hoarding situation, isolated and scared. Determined to provide a better life, Loren took her in, away from the chaos and other animals.
Falkor was terrified and aggressive when Loren first brought her home. She decided to give her the care and attention she desperately needed, ensuring she never felt neglected again. This marked the beginning of Falkor’s transformation.
New Beginnings
After a much-needed vet checkup, Falkor was found to be between five and six years old, with a diagnosis of albinism. Despite common issues associated with albinism, Falkor was neither deaf nor blind. This news was a relief for Loren.
However, Falkor’s journey to trust Loren was not easy. She initially resisted any attempts to be picked up, forcing Loren to use a towel to place her in a carrier. Falkor’s fear was evident, but Loren was patient.
Over time, Falkor began to understand that her new home and humans were safe. She gradually started to trust Loren, though she remained wary of others. Loren describes her as a “one-person dog.”
Falkor’s social interactions with other animals remain limited. Loren believes her past overcrowded living conditions have left a lasting impact. Falkor prefers solitude but has found comfort in her new environment.
Special Care
Falkor’s favorite activities include savoring some delicious french fries and soaking up the sun. However, Loren must be cautious with her sunbathing due to her albinism, which makes her skin vulnerable to UV rays.
To protect her, Loren times Falkor’s sun sessions and always applies sunscreen to her delicate skin. This ensures Falkor can enjoy her favorite pastimes safely.
Despite her small size and unique appearance, Falkor has a big personality. She has become a source of joy and love in Loren’s life, brightening her days with her presence.
Loren reflects on her journey with Falkor, feeling incredibly fortunate. Falkor has brought immense happiness, proving that sometimes the most unexpected companions can make the biggest impact.
